NaNoWriMo 2019: Week Two Update

It has not gone well at all.

I’ve written a grand total of zero words, and I don’t really have a reason for it. The second-week slump is something I’ve always had to deal with. That’s why my goal was to hit 25k in the first week – to give myself that word count cushion and some breathing room when the slump hits.

I had an exhausting weekend at work that made it impossible for me to get any work done, and it’s really aggravated my back. I’ve been trying to take it easy, but it’s been bothering me for a better part of the week. I’ve been trying to get back into yoga and doing some work at a standing desk to help myself recover.

On top of that, it was not a good week for my mental health. You get peaks and valleys with this sort of thing, so when I woke up Monday morning feeling less than fine I felt like taking it easy and not being hard on myself. And that meant I wasn’t writing. I was watching a lot of writing vlogs on Youtube and playing a lot of Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu. I knew I was in for a bad couple of days at some point in November. October happened to be a great month for me, so I knew I was overdue. It’s unfortunate that it’s come off of a rough week one and really set me far behind.

Today is the 14th of November, and the word count I’m supposed to be at is 23, 333 words, so I’m a little over 16 thousand words behind. To make it to 50 thousand, I’ll have to write about 2.7k a day.

I’m a little annoyed, but as we near the end of the week I’m feeling much better, and I know I can put out big word counts when I need to. I might need to take breaks in between to give myself a rest, but I’m still confident I can make it work. I’ve written 30k in a single week before.

I just need to recreate that magic.
