Is it just me, or did the first week of July just fly by? But now that it has, it’s time for a little update on how my Camp NaNoWriMo is going. Spoiler alert, it’s not going great, but I also kind of expected a rough start.
I did not get nearly as much done as I’d hoped to, but we were doing inventory at work so I was really busy and mentally taxed, but I have made small steps of progress! I definitely have a finite amount of energy that I can put towards my work every day and it’s going to be important that I spend it in the right places before the rest of the day drains it out of me.
But regardless, I did get some work done.
Firstly, I’ve made a decision on which project to write! I mentioned it when I posted my Camp NaNoWriMo goals that I was stuck between two possible ideas, and I had to decide which one to write. And I thought it was going to be the urban fantasy, but I’ve had some real breakthroughs for my epic fantasy idea which have changed my plans. I’m actually getting really excited about writing it, so I figured this is a good time to capitalize on that momentum!
The outlining has not started yet, though I’m reaching that point where I need to start plugging my ideas into some sort of chronology. Thus far, I’ve just been doing sporadic research and a lot of brainstorming. I have a loose premise in mind, but I need to nail down the actual plot and character arcs which I hope to have finished by the end of this week!
As per my goals for this month, I still have to outline my urban fantasy as well. But I won’t be starting that until I’m into the drafting phase of my current project. Outlining is a lot of fun, but it’s not the easiest thing in the world for me, and attempting to outline two at the same time will probably eat up too much of my time!
My goals for the next week are definitely to start (and finish) my outline and get on to drafting the book! Hopefully, next week’s update will be a little more..substantial.
