ALYSSA LOST IN SPACE

Back in 2020, I gave myself a challenge to read more of my physical TBR – specifically some of the fantasy and sci-fi that has been sitting unread on my shelves for far too long. I chose 6 fantasy books and 6 sci-fi books and gave myself the task of reading one of them each month of the year, and by the end of the year, I would have knocked off at least 12 books from my to-be-read pile.

And it was pretty successful! I didn’t manage to finish them all, but I did manage to get through 11 of those books. Though I probably shouldn’t have left a tome like Dune to the end of the year.

I want to do that again in 2022, except this year it’ll be a little bit different. To align this challenge more with my goals for the year, I want to prioritize reading indie titles, and I already have a number of them on my digital to-be-read pile.

Here are the 12 Books for 2022:

Unsouled (Cradle #1) by Will Wight: An unsouled man, forbidden to learn the sacred arts of his clan, defies his family and charts his own destiny.

A Threat of Shadows (The Keeper Chronicles #1) by J.A. Andrews: When a keeper and councillor of the queen abandons his duties to save his dying wife, he embarks on a quest to find a cure, and finds a dark enemy emerging from the shadows.

The Queen’s Poisoner (Kingfountain #1) by Jeff Wheeler: The Duke’s son was collateral for his lose, and now he weaves his way through the court of Kingfountain and must prove his worth to the vengeful king to save his own life.

The Forever King (The Scalussen Chronicles #1) by Ben Galley: Peace reigns over a world purged of magic untila young woman discovers an illegal spellbook and is pulled in a secret war.

The Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang: A former warrior and her son must prepare to defend their family and their empire when an invasion from the outside world threatens to destroy them.

Never Die by Rob J Hayes: A man who receives a mission from the God of Death must gather his allies to complete it, and kill an immortal emperor.

Kingdoms at War by Lindsay Buroker: When a cartography student unearths one of the lost dragon gates, he gains the attention of the Wizards, the cruel tyrannical masters who have used their magic to enslave humanity.

The Crimson Queen by Alec Hutson: A young queen rises to power and a young village boy discovers strange powers as magic returns to the world after 1000 years, and a powerful artifact stolen.

Dragon Mage (Rivenworld #1) by M.L. Spencer: A poor misfit from a small fishing village discovers he possesses hidden magic and attends an academy for warrior mages to learn how to become a dragon rider.

Dreams of the Dying (Enderal #1) by Nicolas Lietzau: When an ex-mercenary accepts an invitation to the beautiful but dangerous archipelago of Kilay, he is tasked with saving their king to prevent civil war.

Kings of Paradise (Ash and Sand #1) by Richard Nell: A dark fantasy and a fight for the crown – one an outcast, malformed from birth and ready for vengeance and the other the youngest son, forced to serve and desperate to prove himself.

Air Awakens (Air Awakens #1) by Elise Kova: A young library apprentice is swept into the magical world of sorcerers after she inadvertently saves the crown prince and reveals her own rare elemental gifts.

This go-around will be all fantasy books since that is what I am more commonly drawn to (and what I usually impulse buy). I’ve had some of these titles sitting on my tbr for years, and they are well overdue for a read!
