One Year, Twelve Books

No, that doesn’t mean I’ll be writing twelve stories over the next twelve months though that is definitely an interesting idea. I’ll save that for another time.

I’m on a mission this year, to knock off some of the books on my TBR that I’ve wanted to read for ages and have just never ‘found the time’ or had the courage to dive into.

I have a terrible habit of taking out books from the library and neglecting the stuff I actually own. So I figured I’d assign a book to each month, and divide it evenly between my science fiction and fantasy.

It’s that wonderful time of year – the leaves are changing colours and its time for warm sweaters and boots. I just want to cozy up on a couch with a blanket and a good book, and there are definitely a few things I look for when I’m reading at this time of year.

5 Big SFF Books I Really Want to Read

SFF books tend to be big. Most fantasies are 100,000 words or more, which is a lot. And it makes sense when you think about it. There’s usually a lot of worldbuilding and set up in these sorts of novels, and that takes words. Lots of ’em.

But even among the beefy fantasy and science fiction books out there, there are some that are almost ridiculous in their length. These are the chunky boys – the massive tomes you could use to hammer nails with, and they are usually, by nature of their length, far more intimidating. But I wouldn’t be a true SFF fan if I didn’t at least try to sink my teeth into some of those tomes, am I right?

I’m not as prolific a reader as some people, but I like to think I’m pretty well read. The more I seriously I’ve taken my writing, the more seriously I’ve read, and I’ve tried to read a lot more of the genres I write. Which includes fantasy. I read a lot of fantasy.
